Training Services

The Volunteer Center offers an array of training for volunteers, non-profit organizations, professionals, and business

  • Volunteer Management Training Series
We offer the Volunteer Management Training Series (VMTS) developed by the Points of Light Foundation periodically throughout the year in Manatee and DeSoto counties. This one day course helps raise the not-for-profit profession by certifying Volunteer Managers to work with volunteers. Contact Adraine at (941) 761-3207 or manateens@aol.com to learn more about this opportunity!

  • Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
Disaster preparedness, mitigation, and response modules are offered to youth for the purpose of assisting their families, their schools, and their neighbors before, during, or after a disaster. (17-24 hours course)

  • Points of Light Leadership Institute (PYLI)
Providing tools and resources for youth leadership to lead them towards becoming local decision makers. (PYLI is produced by the Points of Light Foundation - the presentation format ManaTEENs use is generally a 20 hours course)

  • Service-learning Impacting Citizenship (SLIC)
A course to expand civic skills and knowledge among youth which also empowers them to focus volunteer efforts where they are most interested. Animal Welfare, Disaster Preparedness, Environment, Homelessness, Hunger, Literacy, Teen Health, Senior Services, and more are featured. (SLIC is produced by the Points of Light Foundation, 8-16 hours course)

  • Aging Sensitivity
An interactive course designed to help youth to better understand many of the challenges faced by our aging population. Try to thread a needle to simulate arthritis and glasses to simulate glaucoma! This course is a prerequisite for participation in any of our services to seniors programming. (2 hours course)

    Grassroots Leadership Curriculum
A ½ day course designed to empower marginalized residents as stakeholders in the community and to encourage organizations to utilize their talents efficiently and effectively.

  • Managing Unaffiliated, Spontaneous Volunteers after a Disaster
A one day training course developed by Volunteer Florida and Points of Light Foundation that provides the tools necessary to manage a Volunteer Reception Center after disasters for the many volunteers who come to the impacted area with good intentions but little direction. VRCs are only activated in cooperation with local emergency management and other community leaders.
